Introduction, Purpose of Blog, and A Little History

Hi all, and welcome to my blog: "Believe It!"- Maid of Might Musings!  My title is inspired by the cool moment from the 'Superman' animated series episode 'Little Girl Lost' when Supergirl makes her first appearance in costume:

Jimmy Olsen: "I don't believe it!  A super... girl?"
Supergirl: "Believe it!"

Additionally, the art work for the title is by Jamal Igle from 'Supergirl' 34 when Kara Zor-El uses a trash truck as a tool to knock out Silver Banshee.

My main purpose with this blog: to write about Supergirl in all her various incarnations.  These incarnations include Kara Zor-El, Kara In-Ze, and Linda Danvers.  Occasionally, I will write about other comic book characters and comic book popular culture, but this is primarily a blog about Supergirl.

At the outset, I should briefly mention my history regarding the Supergirl character and comic books in general.  My introduction to Supergirl is the 1984 movie.

Helen Slater as Kara Zor-El from 'Supergirl'
Helen Slater and the makers of the movie greatly influenced my view of who Kara Zor-El is, what makes her special, and how she conducts herself in life and society.  Indeed comic book movies and TV shows were my introduction to the world of comic books.  I love Bruce Timm's 'Batman' and 'Superman' shows, and 'X-Men'.   But I did not seriously buy and read comic books until 2004.  Prior to 2004, I sporadically read comics.  Peter David's 'Supergirl' series I tried reading, but I could not appreciate it then.

So, 2004 is my starting point for becoming knowledgeable about comic books.  I credit my brother sharing his experience with me about a class he took: comic book literature.  This caused me to re-examine my thoughts about comic books in general.  My brother introduced me to 'Watchmen' by Alan Moore.  Moore's work established in my mind the storytelling possibilities of comic books.  I then became a steady reader of comic books.  At first I thought collected stories in trade paperbacks would be sufficient.  But some issues are never published in trade paperbacks, so I then found a comic book store and established a monthly pull list.

In conclusion, Supergirl is a comic book character I have a great passion for!  I hope my love for the character will come across as I write this blog, and as I interact with readers and fellow bloggers.  All statements or conclusions about Supergirl here on this blog are my own.  And I'll always credit the sources I use for examples and to support an opinion like dialogue, artwork, and outside opinions and stories.  Any gaps in comic book knowledge are entirely my own.
